James McCarthy expresses delight at Celtic move

James McCarthy has expressed his delight at signing for Celtic today. Celtic confirmed a double signing today with the news that McCarthy and Joe Hart would sign on long-term deals.

McCarthy, who joins as a free agent after leaving Palace, has been linked with Celtic since his Hamilton Accies days. The 30-year-old joins on a four year deal and will add experience and quality to the Celtic midfield after Scott Brown departed. The boyhood Celtic fan has told Celtic’s Official Website that joining the club is a “special day” for him and his family.

“To have signed for Celtic is a brilliant feeling and this is a special day for me and my family.

“I know all about the club, the size of it and all the success it’s enjoyed, particularly in recent years. I’m looking forward to pulling on the Hoops, playing at Paradise and helping the team deliver more success to these amazing fans in the seasons ahead.”

McCarthy has been spotted at Paradise watching Celtic over the years and now he will have a dream come true by pulling on the Hoops and hopefully helping Postecoglou’s side challenge for silverware.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder has played with Wigan Athletic, Everton and Crystal Palace since leaving Accies but he will make the return to Paradise as a new midfielder as Ange Postecoglou beefs up his squad.
