Celtic could be in line for £4m+ windfall as former player attracts interest

We’ve seen that playing in Scotland still means that clubs won’t be willing to pay top prices for any players that are based here.

There have been signs that transfer fees are rising when players are sold, but the best way to squeeze some extra money is for Celtic to ensure they have a sell on clause inserted into every deal.

When Moussa Dembele left for Lyon, The Daily Record reported that Celtic would be in line for between 10-15% of any fee that the French side received when they sell him on.

There are signs that he might be on the move soon as The Sun reported that Chelsea are the latest side to scout him with a view to making a move for the striker.

They go on to suggest that his value could be around £40m, so that could represent a handy windfall for Celtic. If the figures from The Daily Record are accurate then it would represent an extra fee of at least £4m.

No stranger to keeping the matchball

A lot could depend on how Lyon fare in the second half of the season and when he actually leaves. If they decide to cash in on him in January then the fee might not be so high. If he continues to do well and improves on his 10 league goals in 16 games for the rest of the season, then it’s easy to see that price tag going a bit higher.

We all saw how good he was in Scotland so it’s no real surprise to see him linked with a big move, it will just be interesting to see where he actually ends up and how much he goes for.
