Celtic Could Be Set For Dembele Windfall

Former Celt, Moussa Dembele, is currently the talk of a summer transfer battle between Manchester United and Chelsea. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer alluding to his desire for more striking options following the departure of Romelu Lukaku last summer, and Olivier Giroud wanting away from Stamford Bridge, the move would make sense for both clubs.

The Red Devils were linked with a move for the young Frenchman last season, however Celtic sold the player to Lyon for £19.8m. Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has publicly voiced his frustration at the lack of signings in the January window. Indeed, Lampard wanted to strengthen in a number of areas in order to secure a Champions League spot and was left frustrated as a £34m bid to bring Dembele to London was rejected. According to The Mirror, the Blues have looked at Timo Werner and Edison Cavani, but the youth and versatility of Dembele makes him a better long term option in the eyes of the Chelsea boss, who wishes to re-attempt the transfer in the summer.

Lyon value the striker, who is currently fourth in the Ligue 1 goal scoring charts this season, in excess of £60m. With a reported 10-15% sell on clause, Celtic will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of a bidding war emerging in the summer.
