Celtic could lose out on wonderkid this summer as Premier League side show an interest

Referring to a talented youngster as a “wonderkid” happens so much that it’s probably lost it’s meaning, but a report from Leeds Live clearly thinks that Michael Olise is that good.

The 18 year old midfielder has impressed for English Championship club Reading recently, and he managed to make 19 league appearances last season.

The report claims that Celtic have been linked with him recently and he would certainly fit the type of signing that they’ve made in recent years, but they also quote Football Insider in saying that Leeds are now looking to make a move.

They point out that he actually made his debut against Leeds so they’ve had a chance to see him live, while it’s also suggested that Reading are struggling financially so he could be available for a reasonable price.

From Celtic’s point of view it’s understandable that they’ve been linked with another talented young player, but it’s hard to see where he fits into this side.

He can play in the attacking midfield spot but he’ll struggle to get into the team ahead of Tom Rogic or Ryan Christie, while he’ll face the same issue with Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham in the deeper roles.

You also have to consider that he’s been a first team regular for Reading in recent months, so it’s probably not the best thing for his development to go and sit on the bench somewhere else.

It’s hard to see Celtic taking their interest any further unless some midfielders leave, so a move to Leeds is probably the most likely outcome.
