Celtic could sign an old favourite for only £2.5m as his value plummets

It’s almost impossible to determine a player’s value because it really comes down to how much a team is willing to pay, but the Transfermarkt website does track potential values.

It’s interesting to look at Patrick Robert’s profile as it suggests he’s only worth around £2.5m just now, which is way down on the £6.75m from a couple of years ago.

He’s had success at Celtic Park over three previous loan spells, and it’s time for him to finally settle down and establish himself somewhere.

Since his last season at Celtic he’s had disappointing loan spells and Norwich, Girona and Middlesbrough, so that suggests he doesn’t have a future at his parent club Man City either.

He was linked with a potential return to Celtic a few weeks ago by Teamtalk, and it seems inevitable that he will need to find a new club when the season finishes.

He’s still only 23 so he has time to develop and have a successful career somewhere, but that will only be stifled if he’s stuck at Man City and keeps getting sent out on loan spells to various clubs.

The Teamtalk report does state that Man City paid over £12m to sign him in the first place, but it’s hard to see them getting anywhere close to that back.

The £2.5m price tag does seem reasonable when you consider he’s got no future at City, so perhaps that amount and a decent chunk of any future fee could be enough for Celtic to bring him back.
