Prolific striker linked with Celtic confirms he wants a big move this summer

A footballer’s career is so short and injuries or a loss of form can strike at any time, so it’s completely understandable that they’ll look to cash in when things start going their way.

Ivan Toney appeared destined to be an English lower league striker for the rest of his career, after spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Wigan all passed without much fanfare.

Things changed after he moved to Peterborough, and he’s now in demand after finding the net 40 times in only 76 games at League One level.

A report from Football Insider makes interesting reading from a Celtic point of view, after they confirm he’s been linked with a move to Glasgow.

They claim that Toney has told Peterborough and his friends that he wants to play at a higher level, as he eyes the biggest move of his career this summer.

As expected with any striker, he’s also been linked with a move to the Rangers, while West Brom have also been credited with an interest.

The problem for Celtic would be that the report indicates Peterborough would want around £15m to let him go, while a £4m bid from an MLS team has been turned down.

He’s never shown he can do it above League One level and it wouldn’t make sense for Celtic to pay so much for a striker when Odsonne Edouard is still at the club, but it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
