Celtic ‘desperate to play out season’, Ryan Christie

RYAN CHRISTIE has reiterated that Celtic are desperate to get onto the park and win the league title. The Scottish Champions are 13 points clear and were on track for 9-in-a-row before Coronavirus halted football meaning that Celtic could win the title should the Premiership be ended with the Champions decided on current placing.

Christie, speaking to BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra, has insisted that he wants to win the title on the park.

“Everybody at our club would be desperate to play out the final few games.

“Because of the way we were playing before the break, we were on such a terrific run that we felt really confident and towards the end of the season there are so many massive games you won’t be a part of so it’s gutting to miss out on those.”

With a huge 13 point lead over Rangers and a massive goal difference over the Ibrox side, Christie says that Celtic will be deserved champions and would understand if the league is awarded without the final few games being played.

“We’d be crowned rightful champions, I think we have been pretty dominant domestically. But it’s the bigger picture: if that has to be the case to save lives then so be it.

“I’ve definitely taken (football) for granted, I feel that now. When football does come back and we can fill stadiums again, there’ll be a real appreciation for it. You realise how big it is in people’s lives, so when it does come back it’ll be a real boost to the sport.”

Football is likely to return towards the end of the year but with stadiums being full likely to be in 2021, once a vaccine or sufficient drugs to combat COVID-19 are found. As Christie says, when football does return, it will be an enormous boost to football supporters everywhere.

Celtic have been targeted by a section of the Ibrox supporters base claiming that Celtic wanted the league ‘handed to them’, citing ‘sporting integrity’. This ironic nonsense emanating from their support is exemplified by this embarrassing tweet below:
