Celtic duo line up as Scotland U21s defeated by Denmark

Celtic duo Stephen Welsh and Adam Montgomery started for Scotland’s U21 side at Tynecastle Stadium tonight. The Young Scots were beaten by a first-half strike from FC Midtjylland midfielder Gustav Isaken.

It was a narrow defeat but one in which gives more game time to the young Celtic pair. Both Montgomery and Welsh have featured under Ange Postecoglou as the Celtic Academy duo look to establish themselves as first-team ready players. Welsh has taken the captain’s armband for the U21 side and has matured beyond his years after last season’s performances.

Celtic are currently undergoing an internal review at the hand of former manager Gordon Strachan. One of the ex-Aberdeen, Man Utd & Leeds winger’s tasks will be identify how to best produce the young talents of the future to make strides into the Celtic first team as well as for the Scotland National Team.

Scott Gemmill’s side next face Kazakhstan at Tannadice next month with the game being shown on BBC iPlayer. The game has been pushed to the City of Discovery as a result of the COP26.
