Today Celtic can take another giant step closer to the title, no excuses Bhoys. Three points to set up our title party in Paradise…

Yesterday turned out to be a rather good day even though Celtic weren’t playing. theRangers who are  led by that managerial mastermind, once sacked by same old Alloa,  Barry Ferguson fell to yet another defeat at Ibrox when they lost 2-0 to Hibs. As the now familiar sound of boos rang around the stadium bought by founding father Charles Green, Celtic supporters rubbed their hands as it now puts us just two wins from a fourth successive title, 13 in 14 seasons and 55 in total.

Of course we ourselves have to take care of our own business by doing our bit on the park starting this afternoon as we travel to Perth to take on rock bottom St Johnstone.

Top versus bottom not as easy as it sounds

Some will view it as an easy three points due to the Perth Saints lowly league position, and Celtic sitting so comfortably at the top, but football doesn’t work like that and we will have to earn a victory over a side who are fighting for their top flight status. St Johnstone have had 14 consecutive seasons in the Scottish Premiership and will battle hard to maintain that status.

We cruised to a six nil win on our last visit to McDiarmid Park earlier in the campaign, but that doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things, and this afternoon will bring a totally different challenge, one that we need to be totally prepared for.

In saying that I’m still pretty confident we can get the win we need to set up a title clinching day this coming Saturday afternoon when we face Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. Two wins and the title is ours ahead of the split.

We will have most of the crowd cheering us on this afternoon due to the Perth side’s generosity and common sense regarding the ticket allocation, and we have the ability and experience when it comes to winning when it really matters.

There is nothing stopping us from getting the win we desire today. There can simply be no excuses for failing to do so and the players will be desperate to set up that title party at Paradise next Saturday. To make that happen they need to head back down the A9 with the three points in the bag.

Time for some Zombie angst

Meanwhile all that theRangers supporters can do is look forward to that fine Basque side Athletic Club Bilbao visiting Ibrox in midweek looking to inflict defeat number six in a row. Popcorn at the ready for watching that one.
