Celtic FC Women: Delight as Chloe Warrington signs her first professional contract

Celtic Academy graduate Chloe Warrington signed her first ever professional contract with the club this week which will see her playing for Celtic until at least 2023. Chloe has been at the club since she was seven and has over the past season become a regular starter in Fran Alonso’s exciting young Celtic FC Women side.

Chloe made 17 first team appearances and the defender was delighted to put pen to paper as she told Celtic FC Women reporter Colette Carr. “I can’t really put it into words,” the 19 year-old Celtic Star said. “It’s what you work for from being a kid and it’s one of your dreams, so to put pen to paper last week was definitely a proud achievement in my short career so far.

“I thought I did alright last season, so it was something I was hoping for coming into this year and I definitely wanted to go pro so the hard work paid off.

“It shows the coaches and the manager notice when you put in the hard work, and you will get the reward for it. Obviously the hard work doesn’t stop now that I have my pro contract but I’ll definitely keep pushing on and on.”

Celtic are investing in the facilities that the Women’s team will benefit from and the home matches are being moved from K-Park in East Kilbride to Airdrie’s Penny Cars stadium which will allow supporters to attend matches. The Celtic B team under Tommy McIntyre’s guidance will also be playing their Southern League home games over at Airdrie.

“The set-up is really promising and the schedule will benefit a lot of the girls in different ways, with the gym access and everyone being on the pitch in the mornings, but if we put in the hard work on the training pitch, it should come off on game days,” Warrington said.

“Pre-season will be tough and we’ve got a tough run of fixtures coming up, so it’s important to put in the hard work and lay down the marker. We’ve got big games coming up and you want to be playing in them, so the hard work does start now.”

Chloe’s new deal was sanctioned by manager Fran Alonso despite the damage she caused to his famous Miami Vice jacket on the last day of the season against Motherwell…

Celtic FC Women opened their pre-season campaign last weekend with a 2-1 win over English side Huddersfield Town.
