Celtic legend predicts that the clear out isn’t finished yet following Neil Lennon’s departure

It’s amazing how often we hear about a failed managerial stint being blamed on the boss not being able to bring in their own backroom staff.

Realistically they should at least have an assistant who they already know and trust, but you can also understand that any club would want to have someone on the staff who’s been at the club for a while.

That could be important when Celtic choose their next manager – especially if they don’t have any prior connection to the club, so it raises further questions about the future of John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan.

Kennedy is the interim boss and it would be a huge surprise if he’s kept on after this season, so you then have to wonder what role he could have to play under the new regime.

Surely the new boss will want to bring in his own assistant, so it makes sense that Frank McAvennie is predicting that the clear out is only really getting under way (Quotes from Football Insider)

There needs to be a clear out of the backroom staff as well as the players. Whoever comes in needs to bring their own backroom staff, definitely. Whoever comes in would want to bring their own staff with them and rightly so.

“That is why I do not think John Kennedy will be at the club much longer. John got a bad injury and the club kept him on as a coach but I think it is now time for him to go on his own.”

Of course there could be a situation where the new boss actively wants to keep them around for their experience and knowledge so it’s not a definite at this point, but it will be a surprise if both Kennedy and Strachan are still at the club next season.
