Sensational Celtic link: “Could they team up, (Thierry) Henry as figurehead, Stephan as the coach?”

Goal Journalist Robin Bairner has been updating us today on the news that the highly regarded Rennes coach Julien Stephan has quit his job this morning just a few days after Thierry Henry  quit his job at Montreal Impact and provides theories on what might be happening, with a strong Celtic angle included. He reminds us that Henry wanted Stephan as his assistant at Monaco but Rennes refused to allow him to leave.

So could Stephan, whose Rennes side played at Celtic Park twice last season, in a pre-season friendly and then in the Europa League, be set to join up with Thierry Henry? And could one or even both be Celtic bound?

Barnier is a journalist who can be regarded as a reliable source in covering French football and he usually likes to keep an eye on any Scottish angles that may be occurring. This time with the news that Stephan is stepping down after the defeat to OGC Nice on Friday evening has resulted in immediate speculation that a) he would be a realistic fit for Celtic (Barnier reminds us that Stephan is a very good coach) and b) that Stephan could be about to join up with Henry, who also quit his postal Montreal Impact in recent days, at an unspecified club.

Is it too much of a stretch to suggest c) is for Celtic being that club, if you piece together the clues?

“Rennes boss Julien Stephan has quit his job this morning,” Bairner tweeted. “His side were beaten 2-1 by Nice on Friday. Despite the recent run, he’s still one of France’s brightest young coaches.”

The journalist then added: “Celtic could do a lot worse than sound out Stephan’s position. Seems a more realistic target than some names linked to the post and infinitely more capable than others.”

His third tweet then intriguing added this after directly mentioning Celtic in his second update:

“Interesting that Stephan has quit just days after Thierry Henry left Montreal. Henry wanted Stephan to be his assistant at Monaco but Rennes refused permission to talk.

  1. I honestly can’t wait for this season to end one disaster after another, Players do not want to play for our club in the hoops at Paradise They seem to think that they would be better off elsewhere but as others have found out the grass is not always greener on the other side, Our club team manager has gone, Our club chairman also leaves this July 2021, End of the season we are going to lose players that we have had on loan going back to there parent club and also those players that seem to think that they are better than other players that shall still be with our great club, Yes football as we all know it today is a business its all about (Money Money Money) & (Greed Greed Greed) Gone are the good old days when players played for our Green & White Hoops Top & Had worn them with distinction feeling and pride also they played for all the supporters which was and still is called “The Celtic Family” But it seems today when the going gets tough those players that are not so tough get going by wanting to leave our great club for pastures new, But as we all know players and management come and go for whatever reason, The one thing that shall never change is the supporters our very own, “The Celtic Family” God Bless Them All
