The Burnley man is yet to agree an extension with the Clarets and Brendan Rodgers is said to be monitoring the situation with a view to making a move for the midfielder on a pre-contract agreement.

Kieran Tierney pre-contract already agreed

The club have already moved to tie up Kieran Tierney as a free agent once his current contract with Arsenal expires in the close season. Rodgers had been eager to bring the left-back to Glasgow for a second term under his tutelage and was hoping that a loan deal could be struck with the Gunners to bring him up the road earlier. That’s been vetoed by Mikel Arteta though and it looks like it will be another waiting game for KT.

Brownhill, meanwhile, has been backed to seal a move to Celtic Park if the situation with Burnley remains the same. Mick Brown, a scout with years of experience in the game and includes the likes of both Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers on his resume, revealed to Football Insider that it’s a deal that could be a real coup for the Hoops if we made a move for the engine-room operator.

“Josh Brownhill is a very decent all-round player and has been for years,” he told Football Insider. Over a period of time, he’s given consistently impressive performances which go under the radar. He’s one of those players where you talk about others in the team who might stand out more, but you forget him because he’s been consistently solid.

“He’s now doing that for Burnley, and they haven’t half done well this season. They’ve not made a decision yet about whether they’re going to lose him or not, so they could still hand him a new contract before the end of the season. He’s been one of their better players – but sometimes things come to the natural end of their time.”

He added: “Josh Brownhill has been a very good player at that level, and in the Premier League. So for a team like Celtic, he would bring a lot of experience and quality to their side which is always a valuable asset. But I don’t expect they’ll be the only ones interested because if he’s going on a free, I think he would improve a lot of sides. They’re well placed at Celtic to do this.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
