Celtic linked with shock move for Erik Sviatchenko

Celtic are being linked with a shock move for former defender Erik Sviatchenko. The Danish central defender has been impressing with FC Midtjylland, winning two league titles and one domestic cup since returning from Celtic three years ago. According to The Sun’s Alison McConnell, Celtic are eyeing a move for the defender, who was an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ side in 2016/17 that became a proper Invincibles.

The player has three years remaining on his deal in Denmark; however, he has a release clause in his deal  meaning that Celtic could swoop and seal an emotional return to Paradise.

Celtic are needing to recruit heavily in the summer with the incoming boss Ange Postecoglou needing to assemble a new team in the space of a few weeks. The Parkhead side need a number of key positions filled and a move for Sviatchenko could potentially solve some problems at the back. Sviatchenko needs no introduction, he has won two leagues, two league cups and one Scottish Cup after making 62 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

Sviatchenko spoke of his love for the club last year and would surely relish a chance to come back to the club and help win the league title back from Rangers.
