Celtic news round up: Generous offer for Hickey, a different type of striker, a Forster alternative and Andy Halliday’s delusion

After weeks of speculation about who might leave Celtic this summer, it’s been enjoyable to see a lot of stories about possible arrivals at Celtic Park this week.

Celtic have always done well by developing young talents into first team stars, and Hearts defender Aaron Hickey could be the latest.

Hickey actually started his career with Celtic and it means they would be due 30% of any fee that Hearts receive for him, but they’re looking at making a generous offer to Hearts to convince them to sell.

The situation with Fraser Forster is still ongoing – it sounds like Celtic want to keep him and Southampton would be willing to let him go, but a deal still hasn’t been agreed.

That means that possible alternatives do need to be found, and a report from Greece has suggested that Celtic might be looking to sign AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas.

There is always speculation about a new striker being signed and that does make you worry that either Odsonne Edouard or Leigh Griffiths could leave as a result.

This report is slightly different, as it suggests that Celtic would be looking to sign Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson who is known for his aerial threat, and that could give Lenny a totally different option next year.

Also on the striker front, prolific Israeli striker Shon Weissman is a name who’s popped up a few times lately, and he showed his class with an overhead kick last night which you can watch here.

On a much sadder note, it’s starting to feel like we will miss the presence of Andy Halliday at Rangers, after he came out with another belter and suggested Rangers would’ve caught Celtic at the top of the league….
