The late, great Celtic Historian David Potter’s Celtic diary highlights key Celtic-related events relevant to each day, today covering 13 September…
SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 1902
13,000 are at Hampden today to see Celtic beat Queen’s Park 2-1 in a Glasgow Cup game with goals from Johnnie Campbell, one of them a penalty kick. It will be Queen’s Park’s last season at the present Hampden, which will become Cathkin Park, the home of Third Lanark.
SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 1919
40,000 cram into Tynecastle to see a great performance by Celtic as they beat Hearts 1-0 with a wonderful goal from 25 yards scored by Patsy Gallacher. As for Tommy McInally he “has football all over him”. Ex-England International and Manchester United star Charlie Roberts thinks that Celtic are the best in Britain at the moment.
SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 1969
It does indeed turn out to be an unlucky 13th for Celtic as they go down 1-2 to Hibs at Parkhead. Yet it all looked good at half-time with Jimmy Johnstone giving Celtic the lead before Hibs fight back and score two good goals in the second half. It would be fair to say that this was one of Billy McNeill’s poorer games for the club, but that does not excuse the barracking by the idiots in the 45,000 crowd.

SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 1980
17,169 are at Tynecastle today to see Celtic beat a poor Hearts team 2-0 and to marvel at the skills of Charlie Nicholas, now being freely compared to Patsy Gallacher by some veterans. He scores one of the two goals and Davie Provan the other.
13th September 1980, Hearts 0:2 Celtic.

SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2003
A Jimmy McGrory type header from Bobo Balde is the difference between Celtic at Dundee at Dens Park as he rises like a bird to score the only goal of the game. There is a controversial incident as Didier Agathe is wrongly sent off for “denying a goal scoring opportunity”. The referee? Dougie McDonald! The opponent? Nacho Novo! Fortunately justice is done, as Celtic win 1-0.

Didier Agathe sent off against Dundee, in what was an honest mistake.
