Celtic quoted £7.2m to sign Fraser Forster alternative as a return looks more unlikely

It seems clear that Celtic want to bring Fraser Forster back next season and he would probably like to come back, but finances will be a big issue.

Clubs down south will do all they can to save and make money over the next few years, so it’s unlikely they will do Celtic any favours if there’s a more attractive option on the table.

The Boot Room reported on the latest with Celtic’s goalkeeping situation, and it still doesn’t seem like it’s any closer to being resolved.

They confirm that Craig Gordon is set to leave, while it’s also looking like bringing Forster back could be too expensive.

That means that AEK’s Greek international keeper Vasilos Barkas is being viewed as an alternative, but there’s mixed news on that.

It’s positive that they suggest AEK need to sell one big name player to raise some money to help them through the financial crisis, but it still sounds like they want a whopping £7.2m to let him go.

That’s a big price for a 26 year old who’s played less than 100 times in the league during his career, but he’s also showed a lot of promise and has 10 international caps so it could be a risk worth taking.

It still sounds like Celtic’s main choice would be Fraser Forster, but it makes sense to look for alternatives.
