Celtic set to complete first signing of summer window

Celtic look set to finalise their first signing of the summer transfer window with the transfer of 20-year-old Norwegian midfielder Odin Thiago Holm, with the transfer now “imminent”.

According to Nettavisen Sport, Vålerenga are “negotiating with Celtic to reach an agreement on the details of the deal, after the club had made a bid for the 20-year-old”.

It is also detailed in the report that FC Copenhagen had tried to sign the Norway U20 international last winter but had a reported offer of £2.2 million rebuffed.

It is understood Celtic’s bid for the Vålerenga midfielder would have to be more than the £2.2 million Copenhagen bid, with the possible fee likely coming in around £2.5 million.

Much of the Celtic fanbase have questioned the logic in signing a player when we do not yet have a manager in charge, but this deal should be seen as a major positive for those who had any worries regarding Celtic’s recruitment strategy following the departure of Ange Postecoglou.

Mark Lawwell, Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment at Celtic, is as expected carrying on with his excellent scouting in undervalued leagues without the influence and presence of Ange, something I myself questioned when the Aussie left the club.

Regardless of who is the manager of Celtic football club, we seem to have an identity and consistent recruitment strategy which is something Celtic have not had in my lifetime supporting the club.

The days of relying on existing player relationships and Premier League rejects seem to be over, as Celtic seem to be finally evolving into a modern 21st century club.
