Celtic step up interest in Serie A defender according to Sky Sports man

CELTIC have stepped up their interest in Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, according to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph.

The Gambian International is subject of an enquiry from the Scottish Champions as they look to secure a left footed defender and the Serie A stopper could be exactly what they need.

The 27-year-old is valued by Sampdoria at £10m but they are willing to negotiate this figure. Celtic, who recently signed Shane Duffy on a season long loan, may be in the market for a new central defender if Kris Ajer pushes for a move following the Champions League exit to Ferencvaros.

As a left footed defender, Colley would allow Neil Lennon to play 3-5-2 and use Jeremie Frimpong on the right whilst utilising Moi Elyounoussi on the left hand side. This team would be potentially more attacking than the current use of Taylor/Forrest as wide men.

Whether Celtic step up the interest in Colley with a concrete bid is surely contingent upon Kris Ajer’s future at the club. A number of European sides have taken an interest in the young defender and Celtic may be keen to cash in if the Norwegian wants a move away.
