Celtic striker ‘wants to stay’ in France, club chairman confirms

Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo ‘wants to stay’ at Toulouse, according to club President Damien Comolli. As reported by The Sun, the striker that scored 12 goals in Ligue 2 is a target for the club that he spent a season on loan with and now Comolli confirmed that Toulouse are keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

In a meeting with supporters following their play-off aggregate defeat to Nantes, Comolli said that an offer had been made to sign the player from Celtic.

“Vakoun Bayo wants to stay with us and he has now received our proposal.

“Of the two other players we had on loan last season, the option to buy Brecht Dejaegere has been exercised, but on the other hand, Sebastien Dewaest will not return because his salary is too high.”

The £2million-signing from Slovakian side Dunajska Streda in 2019 appears to have no future at Celtic with a fairly disjointed time in Glasgow so far.

Injuries hampered his progress in Glasgow with the 24-year-old missing preseason before returning to fitness in time to sign for the Ligue 2 side. The player was clearly not a Brendan Rodgers signing, which meant that he wasn’t integrated into the first team when he arrived. Injuries and a lack of match fitness meant that Neil Lennon didn’t have a chance to fully utilise him; however, Lennon appeared to give him a chance but Bayo didn’t appear a better option than Griffiths or Edouard.

Ange Postecoglou will likely see Bayo as surplus to requirements and may have his own ideas for targets already. But, there remains an outside chance that the Australian may see Bayo returning as a chance to assess him before making a decision on his future.
