Celtic target Ali McCann scores winning penalty as St Johnstone put Rangers out of Scottish Cup

Celtic target Ali McCann scored the winning penalty as St Johnstone beat Steven Gerrard’s Rangers on penalties in The Scottish Cup Quarter Final. After a dramatic period of injury time in which James Tavernier thought he had won it for Rangers but a late equaliser from goalkeeper Zander Clark put the game to the fate of spot kicks. It was McCann, who Celtic are scouting ahead of the new season, that netted the winner and put the Perth side on track for a Double.

Celtic have been linked with the energetic midfielder in recent weeks as they plan a rebuild in the summer. A new manager is likely to be in place ahead of the new season but a new central midfielder to replace Scott Brown. Tosh McKinlay has watched McCann as Celtic ponder a move and his brilliant, tireless performance in the middle of the park then his winning penalty will surely help his chances of landing a move to Celtic. McCann could certainly provide an enormous amount of fight and drive to a Celtic midfield that has struggled this season.

Celtic were put out of the club last week by the Ibrox side but now St Johnstone have sealed a victory meaning that Callum Davidson will look to seal a Scottish Cup and League Cup double in the coming weeks. Celtic will be the next club at Ibrox next weekend as they look to salvage some pride this season with a win in the Glasgow Derby.
