We’re not daft. We know Bratislava was a comparatively easy start and that tougher games are ahead, but we can go into them with confidence…
The German giants reached the final of the competition last season and although they were hammered 5-1 by Stuttgart yesterday, they will still prove a formidable side.
We are certainly not deluded, like supporters of a certain club tend to be, we know we face a tough task in Europe especially our away games. We were lucky enough to get a decent start and result against Slovan Bratislava, but things will get extremely tougher starting at the Westfalenstadion next week.
What we can do is head into these games with confidence and belief due to our excellent start to the campaign. We are much better prepared and organised than we were at this stage of last season and while anything we get on our travels will be a bonus.
We all want to see the team perform well, and they could well do just that, but we know deep down it will be a tough ask.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
This would possibly be a concern for Rodgers after yesterday, that we still remain at limited number of players, that Rodgers can depend upon in such big CL matches still?
Course it’s going to impact upon game management for Rodgers, especially if players are carrying niggling injuries, or worse still are unavailable through injury for such games?
Thankfully we have a very strong core group of players, who are adapting so well, to the type of football we are currently playing, which I believe would be a challenge for all the big guns within CL, to contain?
Yet we still have a good number of players still trying to get up to speed with what Rodgers is looking for, from our players still?
We saw yesterday how much is taken away from Calmac and Hatate with the intensity that we are hoping to play at in our CL matches?
So Rodgers will possibly have to look at the game management issue moreso than he would have intended at present imo?
