Celtic v Buckie Thistle – Brendan must pick strongest available side

Brendan Rodgers today must play our strongest available side this afternoon in the Scottish Cup tie against Highland league side Buckie Thistle…

This afternoon sees Celtic play our first game in almost three weeks. Yes three long weeks without the football has taken its toll on all of us, but not to worry there is only a few hours until we see the starting line up for only the second time in 2024.

That Celtic line up will be interesting. Do we start with a weakened side? Or do we play our strongest XI? For me it’s the latter. We haven’t had any competitive football of note since 2nd January and it’s our first game of the New Year at Celtic Park. The players need to get that match sharpness back after a few weeks of much needed rest, and today can be crucial for getting Celtic players ready for the challenges to come over the coming weeks as we look to retain both the Scottish Premiership and of course the Scottish Cup.

We also need to be respectful to our opponents Buckie Thistle. They might be lower league opposition, but this game means everything to them and they will be up for it, make no mistake about that.

So Brendan needs to make sure our players are up for it, and urge them to produce a flawless performance to make a statement of our intent not only to retain the Scottish Cup, but the league title as well. To do that we need to start our strongest possible side. Let’s hope we see that when the team is announced later today.

Earlier today Lubo98 posted his predicted team and it was a strong one. I’d be happy enough If he’s correct – he went for Hart, Johnston, Nawrocki, Scales, Taylor; McGregor, Bernardo, O’Riley; Abada, Kyogo and Palma. I think however that Stephen Welsh could get the nod in the right hand side of Celtic’s central defence.
