Celtic’s defense may need to be totally rebuilt as star hints at summer transfer

We’ve seen this season that Celtic’s defense needs some serious work, but it’s reached a point where you actually wonder who’s going to stick around next season.

Kenny, Duffy and Laxalt are only on loan and probably haven’t done enough to justify paying good money for a permanent deal, while there will also be a fear that Kristoffer Ajer will finally move on this summer.

Anthony Ralston isn’t good enough so at least two right backs are needed, while Greg Taylor will need some help on the left hand side too.

Nir Bitton isn’t really a natural centre back so Christopher Jullien would be the main senior option left, but it’s now looking like he could be off this summer:

In fairness his answer starts of well as he doesn’t commit to Marseille being interested, but he mainly talks about other options being available in the transfer market and doesn’t seem to commit himself to Celtic.

Moving to Marseille may be off-putting when he looks at how much Olivier Ntcham has struggled, but it’s also obvious that he wasn’t a preferred signing in January so things may be different for Jullien.

He’s been out with a long term injury and the defence has been noticeably worse without him, but it now looks like Celtic may need to cash in if he is making noises about leaving.

Rebuilding an entire defensive unit has to make you nervous in the summer but it’s starting to look like it could be necessary, so it’s yet another reason to get a new manager sorted as soon as possible so they have as much time as they can to work with the new players.
