Celtic’s Jesse Marsch dream could be quickly extinguished due to links with Champions League side

Jesse Marsch won’t have registered on the radar for a lot of Celtic fans until the last few days, but he’s suddenly blossomed as a fine choice to take over from Neil Lennon.

He’s highly thought of and his work at RB Salzburg where he’s developed a number of talented young players has to be admired, but it also means that he’ll have offered from some other big clubs.

A report from Give Me Sport has confirmed that he’s being linked with the Celtic job, but it also sounds like Borussia Monchengladbach are looking at him to replace their manager Marco Rose who will take over at Dortmund in the summer.

Monchengladbach reached the knockout stages of the Champions League this year so it’s clear that they have a lot of potential to challenge at a high level, while Marsch has been impressing in Austria so the move to Germany may seem like the more natural step up for him.

It’s not quite clear what Marsch prefers at this point and it’s likely that he’ll join the club that he feels offers the best project and ability to grow and challenge in Europe, so that could still be Celtic if the board can make a brilliant pitch to him.

He will need to adapt to a new style if he joins Celtic but he’s certainly a much more inspiring choice than a lot of the same old names who are being banded about, so it’s an interesting link to follow over the next few years.
