Celtic’s Euro rivals set to lose star player to Brentford

Celtic’s chances of qualifying for the next round of The Champions League have been boosted after it was revealed that Midtjylland midfielder Frank Onyeka is nearing a move to Premier League new-boys Brentford. The West London club look set to pay £11.5m for the 23-year-old just weeks ahead of Midtjylland’s European trip to Paradise.

According to Sky Sports, the Nigeria Internationalist is set for a move to England as Thomas Frank prepares for life in the top division. The deal should be extremely straight forward given the clubs are both owned by Matthew Benham. A number of the Danish side’s stars are being hunted by some top five league teams in Europe with Jens Cajuste and striker Sory Kaba both linked with moves away – any deal would certainly benefit Celtic.

Celtic will know Midtjylland well given that their captain, Erik Sviatchenko, spent two and a half years in Glasgow. The defender has been tipped with a return to Glasgow and would be a steady, safe signing for Ange Postecoglou to make. Ironically, it may be the person that replaced him at Celtic (Jack Hendry) that may fund his move back to Celtic should Oostende exercise their option to buy of £2m.
