Celtic star Lisa Robertson was last night named as the SWPL1 Player of the Year for season 2020/21. The Scotland international midfielder was outstanding throughout last season and on one occasion as Celtic secured a second crucial win of the season at theRangers training complex, we reported on the reaction to their latest defeat to Celtic on the Ibrox forums where their fans noted that Robertson was the stand-out play who was running the match for Celtic.

When you’re appreciated by your fierce rivals then you know you’re a player and that’s certainly the case with anyone who watched Lisa Robertson’s performances last season which were so important in propelling Fran Alonso’s side to reach the Champions League and to give long-term title winners Glasgow City a real title fright.

“The SWPL 1 POTY Congrats to Lisa Robertson and all our players and staff on their individual and team nominations and for a fantastic season,” Celtic FC Women tweeted last night. And Glasgow City star Janine Van Wyk was among the first to send congratulations to Lisa.

And Fiona McIntyre, Head of Girls and Women’s Football at the Scottish FA added her own message to Lisa: “Well done and thoroughly deserved. Top player.”

Congratulations Lisa! Well deserved indeed!
