Celtic’s SLO John Paul Taylor has confirmed the three Champions League ticket allocations for traveling Celtic fans, although the numbers quoted will only satisfy the demand for some of the many thousands of Celtic fans planning to head to Warsaw, Leipzig and Madrid to roar on the Bhoys in the Champions League.
Celtic will receive 1500 tickets from Shakhtar Donetsk (14 September), 2300 from Leipzig (5 October) and just 1800 tickets from Real Madrid (2 November) This is a reduced number due to building works at their stadium.
Leipzig also introduced a neutral zone for the last visit from Celtic and that was hugely successful as far as the hitherto ticketless Celtic fans were concerned. Celtic have not heard whether this will happen this time around but are hopeful. These tickets however are likely to be sold by RB Leipzig rather than Celtic, as per the last instance.
Asked why the allocation for the game against Shakhtar was so low (1500) John Paul Taylor gave this explanation: “31,000 capacity stadium, 5% for this as there is no external or construction works taking place at the stadium.”
As you would expect thousands of Celtic fans are looking at travelling to these three Champions League matches with or without tickets and many will be hoping that one way or another that additional tickets will be made available. With Shakhtar having to play their games at Legia Warsaw’s ground, it could mean that there will be space for additional Celtic fans. And on a previous visit to Leipzig, Celtic’s allocation was increased due to the lower number of home tickets sold.
Tickets are likely to go on sale next week and the usual criteria around attending previous away matches in European football will obviously apply.
