Charlie Nicholas’ Europa League predictions: Mixed night in store for Celtic and Rangers

Who knows if the members of the Soccer Saturday panel are there for entertainment purposes or their football expertise, but Celtic fans will be hoping that Charlie Nicholas is right about this one.

A report from The Metro has looked at his predictions for the British teams in the Europa League this week, and it suggests a mixed night for the Glasgow clubs:

The disappointment of the second half against Copenhagen has started to wear off, and it’s clear that Celtic do go into the game as favourites.

You have to think that the atmosphere at Celtic Park and a formidable home record for Neil Lennon and his side gives them a great chance to win, and they showed the ability to completely dominate the Danish side in that first half.

There’s more good news in that Copenhagen’s weekend was hampered by a poor performance that only resulted in another 1-1 draw, so it’s not like they come into the game in great form either.

His predicted result from Portugal would also be particularly crushing for Steven Gerrard across the city. They did produce a great comeback last week, but you have to think letting Celtic extend their lead and crashing out of Europe would be a particularly tough one to take.
