Cheyenne Shorts Eyes The Double Delight of Two Beautiful Sundays

The Celtic Star & The Cynic speak to Celtic’s American defender Cheyenne Shorts as Fran Alonso’s summer signing looks ahead to Sunday trip to face theRangers in the quarter final of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup…

Cheyenne Shorts reckons that she’s joined a  team “has a lot of fight” as she reflected on Celtic preserving their long unbeaten run with a 95th minute equaliser against Spartans a week last Sunday and she noted that they even came agonisingly close to getting a winner in the final 30 seconds of what had been a frustrating afternoon for Fran Alonso’s side. This Shorts reckons typifies the never-say-die mindset of this Celtic side who head across the city to Murray Park on Sunday afternoon to play theRangers in the SWPL Cup Quarter Final.

The defender will be making her debut in the traditional Glasgow Derby fixture this weekend and reckons that the last outing, even on a tough day for the team proves that the team aren’t ever ready to accept defeat.

“It was a great response. It was tough being 2-1 down, but we have the mentality to come back and we could have won it. We hit the post two or three times but it’s something you have to fight through, but this team has a lot of fight in them and it was nice to get at least the point,” Cheyenne said.

“Everyone was a little disappointed. Dropping a couple of points was tough but we’ve bounced back well and we have a good enough mentality to know that sometimes it happens – it’s the game and you have to be able to take it, learn and move on from it. We’ve implemented a lot of things that help us to take into this weekend.”

On this weekend’s challenge of facing theRangers – who Celtic beat three times last season from three matches, there was clear excitement when she said: “I’ve heard about the derbies since I got here, so I’ve been really excited to see what it’s about – I can’t wait.

“We’re focusing on us, but we have a system that works well, so we’ll stick with what works well and hopefully get the result,” she said.

A quick explanation on why The Celtic Fans calls winning these games Beautiful Sunday and you know what? We are playing them next Sunday this time at home at the Penny Cars Stadium in Airdrie. Two Beautiful Sundays in a row? Now that would be nice.

theRangers incidentally are NOT allowing any Celtic supporters to attend this match. Funny that. Listen to Cheyenne Shorts speaking to The Cynic and The Celtic Star yesterday, other fan media sites and podcasts were invited as were the Mainstream Media, could have participated but were posted missing. Funny that…they couldn’t wait to get into the Press Box at Celtic Park last season for this Glasgow Derby.

Fran Alonso also spoke to the two fan media sites fully supportive of the Celtic FC Women’s side and we’ll cover that separately.
