Chris Davies joins Postecoglou at Spurs, with John Kennedy implications for Celtic

Chris Davies was Brendan Rodgers’ right hand man at both Celtic and Leicester City but hasn’t been linked with a return to Glasgow with the Irishman looking set to be confirmed by the club over the next 24 hours. Instead Davies was reported to be ready to take a top job himself and was linked with the vacancy at Swansea City.

That move though is NOT happening and in a development that could have a real significance for the make-up of coaching staff at Celtic next season, Chris Davies has instead opted to join up with Ange Postecoglou to be part of his backroom team at Tottenham.

And that hints at John Kennedy making his mind up over his own future with both Brendan Rodgers for Celtic and Ange Postecoglou for Tottenham Hotspur both anxious to have the longtime Celtic coach at their side next season.

With Davies heading to Tottenham that suggests to us that John Kennedy will reject the opportunity to join up with the Ange Postecoglou in the Premier League to remain at the club he has served for a quarter of a century. And as we suggested this morning that could and should involve Celtic offering a new and improved contract to compete with the riches on offer from Spurs.

When Jimmy McGrory knocked back Arsenal all those years ago he did do because he thought that McGrory of the Arsenal didn’t sound quite right, he was actually McGrory of the Celtic. John Kennedy is related to another famous Celtic Jimmy (Delaney) and with 25 years and counting service at the club he’ll deserve to be known as Kennedy of the Celtic one day in the future.

John Kennedy and Stephen McManus sign for Celtic as 14 and 15 years olds in February 1998. John Kennedy became the youngest ever Celt when Kenny Dalglish gave him his debut in April 2000 against Motherwell in a 4-0 win at Celtic Park
