Chris Sutton: “My dad Mike sadly passed away yesterday. He was a great sportsman, teacher, husband, dad and grandad. He was my hero and I will miss him so much”

Chris Sutton has just posted the sad news that his dad, Mike passed away yesterday after a long battle with dementia.

“My dad Mike sadly passed away yesterday. He was a great sportsman, teacher, husband, dad and grandad. He was my hero and I will miss him so much,” Chris tweeted.

On Christmas Eve the former Celtic striker posted this wonderful image of his dad as a boy. “Was given this picture of a young Mike Sutton. Time flies. I’m so proud of my dad,” Chris wrote lovingly.

Today his heart will be breaking as he posted this saddest of all tweets.

Sutton’s Celtic family have been quick to offer condolences to the Sutton family, here are three message among many hundreds already posted.

“Sorry to hear that Chris. Your love for him shone through. Requiescat in Pace.”

“Thoughts & prayers are with you and the family.”

“Sorry for your loss Chris. RIP Mike.”

And of course it isn’t just the Celtic family offering condolences this morning. This lady’s husband knew Mike and had this to say.

Rest in Peace Mike and our condolences to the Sutton family at this sad time.
