Current Celtic player tipped to step up and replace Damien Duff on the coaching staff

It’s rare that you see much written about the coaching staff at Celtic until it’s time for them to leave, but that’s possibly a good thing.

John Kennedy received a lot of attention about how he might be missed if he took the Hibs job last year, while Damien Duff is now being praised as he takes up a role with the Republic of Ireland.

In truth, only those within the staff and the squad will know how important these guys were to the whole set up, but Duff’s departure does leave a gap that needs to be filled.

In some ways it might be a positive thing to get some fresh ideas or input from someone different to help the team going forward, but it’s actually a very familiar face who’s been tipped to step up.

Alex Bruce had been speaking to Football Insider about the situation, and he thinks it could be the perfect next step for Scott Brown.

It’s important to stress this isn’t to suggest he should immediately hang up his boots, but he’s someone that you would want to keep around when he does retire, so starting the transition now could be ideal.

Speaking about the possibility Bruce said: “He’s the kind of character that you would want on the coaching staff so I would understand if Neil Lennon does try to get him, when he does hang his boots up, to make that step.”

“I believe Scott Brown’s still got a couple of years in him playing, from what I’ve experienced playing against him.”

“However, I’m sure when he does choose to hang his boots up, there should be a position somewhere, whether it be at Celtic or somewhere else, because you want those kind of characters staying in the game.”

Broony is an intelligent player who also has the characteristics that every player will look up to, so having that behind the scenes will help to soften the blow when he’s not on the pitch anymore.

There’s not been anything from the club about what will happen with this for now, but promoting from within is always a good message to send to your employees no matter where you work.
