Daizen Maeda reacts after famous World Cup win

Celtic forward Daizen Maeda has reacted to Japan’s famous 2-1 win over Germany in their opening World Cup match. Maeda was the only Celtic player selected but he is flying the flag for the Hoops as he started the game against Hansi Flick’s team.

Taking to Instagram, Maeda posted a few snaps from the game along with the statement – Big Win.

Japan will now fancy their chances getting out of the group as they face Costa Rica next up, who were thrashed 7-0 by Spain. The Spanish face the Germans in Matchday Two, meaning that Japan could already have sealed a place in the next round before they even face the Spanish.

While Kyogo Furuhashi was a surprise omission, Maeda made his presence felt as he hassled and hounded the German defence with his intense press.

Maeda and his International teammates will have pleased the Celtic contingent of Japanese players, who will have loved beating the 2014 World Champions. Now, there are five Celts from Japan as Yuki Kobayashi joined the ranks.
