Daniel Amartey could be Brendan Rodgers’ first Celtic signing

Daniel Amartey could be Brendan Rodgers’ first Celtic signing in his second spell in charge of the club. The Irishman put pen-to-paper on a three-year-deal in Glasgow’s East End for the second time since his spell over four years ago. It is a move that has certainly got the public talking and the days and days of speculation have now become a reality heading into next season.

Amartey is a free agent after leaving recently relegated Leicester City after spending seven years at the Midlands outfit. Signing from Copenhagen for around £6million, the midfielder/defender won a Premier League title with Claudio Ranieri and his famous Leicester side.

The 28-year-old was converted by Rodgers when he arrived at the King Power Stadium and was quite the stalwart for the former Liverpool boss during his tenure there. He was used 40 times by Rodgers during the 2021/22 campaign and then featured 24 times during this most recent season which saw his side unfortunately relegated.

According to TEAMTalk, the Ghanian – who has amassed 52 caps for his national team – is under “strong consideration” from Rodgers who may look to offer him the chance to link up again in Glasgow. His ability to play various roles is an obvious advantage and the physicality wouldn’t go amiss in this Celtic team for sure. However, it’s said there is interest in his services from Saudi Arabia and Turkey too.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
