David Turnbull completes £2m Celtic exit

David Turnbull has completed his exit from Celtic as the Scotland Internationalist signs for Cardiff City. The 24-year-old was out of contract in the summer and has joined the Championship side on a deal until the summer of 2027.

Cardiff confirmed the signing after 11pm on Deadline Day with Turnbull’s Celtic career coming to an end.

Signed from Motherwell in 2020, Turnbull won Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year in his debut season as Celtic toiled.

The midfielder made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and assisting on 23 occasions. Appearances and first team opportunities were limited due to Tom Rogic, Reo Hatate Matt O’Riley and Aaron Mooy.

The player will likely enjoy success in England but didn’t have the requisite pace to keep up with the attacking requirements Celtic. The club have done well to get a fee for Turnbull, who is out of contract. The intensity of Turnbull’s running (or lack thereof) was alarming, perhaps the deal was already edging closer and he didn’t want to threaten an injury.

Anyways, a good servant and leaves with two League Cups, two Scottish Cups and two Leagues.

Best of luck, David.
