‘Dubai will help us win games and to win trophies,’ Celtic’s Forgotten Man

CELTIC’S forgotten man Nir Bitton is hoping to put his 2018 frustrations behind him and work his way back into The Celtic side in 2019. The Israeli went under the knife for his troublesome knee problem early last year and was initially expected to out of action until September.

And while the midfielder did return to training towards the end of the year he was nowhere near ready to play for the first team. That though is what Bitton hopes to change as quickly as he possibly can.

Speaking to the new edition of The Celtic View, out on 9 January, the 27 year old admitted it has been hard keeping his chin up as he battled back to full fitness.

“It’s tough staying positive, especially when you get a long-term injury. Sometimes people don’t understand, sometimes people take the simple things in life for granted.

“It was only after getting this injury that I realised I need to appreciate every single minute on the training pitch, every single minute on the pitch, because in one moment you can lose everything, and you can do nothing about it.

“From here, I’ll put the injury behind me, and my main focus is to get back to full fitness now, have a good time in Dubai with the team, to get back into shape, get some thorough training sessions in.

“After the winter break, I’ll keep pushing, keep training hard, and hopefully I’ll get some game time, and hopefully we’ll win some more trophies this season.”

Bitton is a big fan of the winter break and sees the value in The Celtic training base in the UAE.

“Dubai is a good opportunity for us to get in a good week of training, but also to recharge the batteries for the second-half of the season. We’ve travelled to Dubai for two years running now, and it’s helped us prepare for the next part of the season on both occasions.

“If we get a good week of sessions now, we’ll be back to what we know and what know best, and that’s to win games and to win trophies.”
