Duffy to miss Hibs clash, Celtic struggling at the back

Shane Duffy is set to miss Celtic’s game against Hibernian tomorrow due to personal reasons. RTE are reporting that the Ireland captain and on-loan defender will not be available for selection after leaving the Dubai training camp earlier in the week.

Duffy has struggled since arriving at Celtic from Brighton with some shaky performances. However, John Kennedy has insisted that he will remain at the club despite speculation that he may have his loan deal cut short.

“Shane will be very much with us,” Kennedy said. “We have no intention of sending him back to Brighton.”

Celtic now have just Kris Ajer as their only senior recognised central defender with Jullien out injured, Bitton suspended and now Duffy unavailable. Neil Lennon will need to call upon either Stephen Welsh or Hatem Abd Elhamed to partner Kris Ajer at the back.

Celtic have been rocked by the news that one player has returned a positive COVID-19 test result. The club can only hope that the player that has returned the test isn’t a defender as the team are seriously short on options in defence going into the match.
