Embarrassing Aberdeen 0 Simply Superb Celtic 4

This game bordered on the embarrassing. Chris Sutton was correct to suggest that Aberdeen should apologise to their Manager and certainly their supporters.

It was one of these games when one asks the question “Are they trying to get their Manager sacked?” They might get their wish, for that sort of thing just simply cannot be sustained.

Aberdeen is seldom a great footballing city. It will be even less so now – unless of course you support Cove Rangers, who are currently top of the Second Division! (Paul Hartley is their Manager).

But let’s talk about Celtic. Simply superb! Four great goals, and although possibly Bolingoli made a few mstakes, he was hardly a failure in a side that simply hotched with talent and was clearly miles ahead of Aberdeen.

Fraser Forster could easily have had a walk down to the Beach for an ice cream in the second half – but it was too cold for that!

The second half was simply a bore. I really should have taken the dog for a walk instead of watching that glorified training run.

Even more treasonous than that, once or twice I found myself wanting Aberdeen to score to make some kind of a game out of it. But they didn’t. And even the referee (by no means our favourite!) had not a bad day – once or twice I actually thought he gave us the benefit of the doubt!

So where does that leave us? Very happy, and we now seem to have a team which can perform brilliantly at Celtic Park on Thursday and then do the same in totally different circumstances at a difficult away ground three days later.

We definitely have something in Jeremie Frimpong, but he comes into a superb team. Odsonne Edouard’s goal was my favourite as he ripped through that defence as it it did not exist – as indeed it didn’t!

The other goals were great as well,- the teamwork in that third goal! – and all in all it was a fine day. I was at the 9-0 game in 2010, and I seem to remember Aberdeen putting up more resistance then than they did today.

So, where are we now? Well, St Mirren at Celtic Park on Wednesday night don’t seem to be much of a problem – but let us not get complacent.
