Excellent news for Celtic as precedent from UEFA suggests they will be awarded the league title

It’s a unique time we’re living in just now for many reasons, especially with the uncertainty over so many things.

Obviously the global health crisis is the real concern right now, but football is very important to a lot of people so they want to know what’s going to happen with this season.

Realistically nobody knows when games will start up again or what it means for the season that we’ve invested so much time, energy and passion into following, but this could be great news for a Celtic point of view.

The Daily Record has reported on the last time UEFA had to intervene when a league was suspended, and this suggests that nine-in-a-row should happen regardless.

The situation was slightly different in that it was war rather than disease that stopped the league, but in 1999 the league in Yugoslavia was stopped after 24 of the 34 games were played.

It’s also worth noting that Partizan Belgrade were only two points clear at that point, where Neil Lennon’s men sit 13 points clear of the Rangers.

They go on to say that even though the league was cleared to resume later in the year, UEFA decided to award the title to Partizan.

Of course we would all prefer it if the situation improved and things could be finished on the pitch, but this suggests the league title will belong to Celtic no matter what happens.

It’s just an added bonus that Alex Rae might have a full-on tantrum if it’s awarded this way too.
