Fabrizio Romano confirms club in talks to sign Giakoumakis

Giorgos Giakoumakis could be headed for the MLS after developments this evening confirmed that Atlanta United were in talks to sign the attacker. The Greece Internationalist has been heavily linked with a departure this month as the 28-year-old looks to maximise his earnings from his career.

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has issued an update stating that the MLS side were looking to secure the signature of the Greek striker as their designated player for the upcoming season.

After joining for £2m in the summer of 2021, Giakoumakis has impressed. Last season he was the SPFL’s top goalscorer with the season before that, the striker earning the same accolade in the Netherlands. In 57 appearances since moving from VVV-Venlo, Giakoumakis has scored 26 goals as well as assisting twice. His numbers are impressive and they have been slightly skewed due to his substitute appearances coming late in the game. The player was a major factor in securing the league title last year and if he leaves, he will do so with the best wishes of everyone.

It will be interesting to see what transpires with regards to Giakoumakis’ future in the next few days as the MLS move would certainly appeal to the striker.
