Our former star enjoyed a spell at Celtic Park back in the 2014/15 season when Ronny Deila brought him to Paradise on a loan deal from his parent club, Manchester City.

Denayer played alongside Virgil van Dijk at Celtic

The Belgian centre-back was outstanding for Deila and his Hoops team that year, forging a solid defence bedrock with now Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who went on to have phenomenal success in the game after his spell  at Celtic. Both players helped Deila secure a double that season and the Norwegian wanted to bring Denayer back again the following year.

It wasn’t to be however, as his profile had been raised substantially after his campaign with the Hoops and many teams were interested in acquiring the Belgian defender’s talents. He would go on to sign for Galatasaray in the aftermath of his stint with the Scottish Champions, then onto Lyon and of course Saudi Arabia, where he has just left this window.

The 29-year-old former Celt is on the lookout for a new club

The 29-year-old is on the lookout for a new club and there is one in Glasgow!  Now at this juncture of his career and carries with him a wealth of experience both domestically and internationally. Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his squad this month with several players and it’s been reported that the club are looking at defensive reinforcements in the central area.

Perhaps Denayer would be worth taking a look at?

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
