Former £16m winger available after being released, Celtic could make a move

Former Celtic attacker Moi Elyounoussi is available as a free agent after being released by relegated Southampton. The 28-year-old will be looking for his next opportunity and a return to the Scottish Champions has been suggested on social media.

In an interview with Norwegian media, Elyounoussi confirmed that he would be leaving the South Coast club following the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

Elyounoussi initially struggled at the St Mary’s club after making a £16 million switch from Swiss side Basel in the summer of 2018. However, he ended up rediscovering the form during his two loan seasons at Celtic Park, where the winger scored 25 goals in 69 outings under Neil Lennon, including 6 goals in European competitions.

A hugely talented player, Elyounoussi will likely be looking for a lucrative deal in what could be the last long-term deal of his career. Celtic, who look set to return to the management of Brendan Rodgers, could do a lot worse than revisiting Moi, who had a successful time in Glasgow – despite the challenges of the COVID-19-plagued 2020/21 season.

Celtic have Liel Abada and James Forrest on the right with Sead Haksabanovic, Jota and Daizen Maeda all preferring to come off the left. Rodgers likes inside forwards, similar to Scott Sinclair, for his teams.

  1. The most infuriating player I have ever seen in the hoops. Was EXACTLY like the boy Tillman at Ibrokes this year, would post missing for games on end. Bringing back the old guard is not the way forward. Elyounoussi would not start ahead of any of the players mentioned in this article.
