Former Celt Anthony Stokes wanted by Liverpool legend’s Indian side

ANTHONY STOKES is wanted by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler to play for his East Bengal FC side in the Indian Super League. Stokes left Livingston by mutual consent earlier this month and the Daily Record is reporting that the ex-Celtic attacker could make a move to India – joining up with Fowler.

Stokes refused to return to Iran due to the Coronavirus pandemic in February but his agent managed to get him out of his contract early from the Tehran club. Livi swooped to bring him in to replace Lyndon Dykes but like his move to Iran, he did not see out his contract.

His off-field antics often shadowed his talent and after a nomadic few years ranging from Turkey, Greece and Iran, Stokes can settle with Livi. Stokes has over 130 goals in Scottish football and appeared to be a good acquisition by the West Lothian side. Now he will need to find a new club with a trip to Indian appearing in line with his nomadic trips of recent years.

Stokes won four titles, two Scottish Cups and one league cup with Celtic as well as a Scottish Cup with Hibs, that he won whilst on loan from Celtic, beating Rangers 3-2 in the final.
