Former Celtic star Joe Ledley’s view on neck and neck Scottish Premiership title race

Former Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley reckons that the race for the Scottish title race will remain tight and unpredictable all the way to the finish as both Celtic and theRangers look to win the league and with that earn an incredibly large sum by going straight into the new format Champions of the Champions League next season.

So with a minimum of £45m riding on the outcome of this Scottish Premiership campaign it’s the richest prize ever on offer in Scottish football. It’s fair to say that theRangers have thrown the kitchen sink at it financially this season whereas Celtic have preferred to keep upwards of £70m resting in the PLC bank account.

And having let a comfortable lead slip there’s pressure on Celtic to get the momentum going at Livingston on Sunday then do the business against theRangers at Ibrox the following weekend.

But Joe Ledley, a course and distance winner with Celtic, reckons that this season is a tough one to call. “It is very tight and, of course, the games between the two teams look as if they are going to be deciding games that dictate who comes out on top,” the Welshman said, as reported by Daily Record.

“But I have seen a few times this season that Celtic and (the)Rangers have slipped up in games where you felt they would have won and they didn’t. So it is going to be tight. Getting that win against your rivals in the last two games in the league is vital.

“But, as I said, we’ve seen it numerous times this season that there have been slips just when you do not expect it. So if Celtic get that win against (the)Rangers, you can’t think that’s it and the game is over. It’s not. Far from it.

“A draw somewhere and that is two points of the three points gained gone and it is all back on again. Goal difference is tight, points are tight, it is going to be one of the tightest finishes in a long time.”

A key factor for Brendan Rodgers is going to be the key players such as Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Luis Palma, all returning from injury. And will Cameron Carter-Vickers hopefully in a better place fitness wise to play the remaining batch of games, Celtic should have enough to get this title won.

But Joe Ledley is right, it’s too close to call at this stage. Winning all four Glasgow Derbies should be enough but it’s in the other games that Celtic have slipped up. Just win them all Celtic!
