Freed Celt Simunovic set for move to Turkey

JOZO SIMUNOVIC was released by Celtic at the beginning of the summer in a decision that raised some eyebrows. The 26-year-old Croatian was awaiting news of a contract extension before the Coronavirus pandemic took a stranglehold over society and consequently, Celtic decided against exercising their option on the defender.

Now, The Scottish Sun are linking Jozo with a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, who finished as runners up in the Super Liga last season. Simunovic would be a fine defensive recruit with successful spells in Glasgow as well as Dinamo Zagreb.

The Croatian defender joined from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 following Virgil Van Dijk’s departure for Southampton. However injuries curtailed his progress with the Scottish Champions and the decision has been taken to part ways with the Croatian.

The 25-year-old signed a contract extension back in 2017 for four-years and it was expected that the club would exercise the option of the fourth year after his impressive domestic displays; however, it was decided that Jozo would leave the club as the club look to redistribute the wages spent on him for new imports.

Hopefully Jozo can stay injury free and get his career back on track in Turkey.
