Premier League club Fulham have held talks with Marseille over the potential signing of Bamba Dieng. The 22-year-old, who was a key component as OM finished second to Paris Saint-Germain last season, had been linked with a move to Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic.
According to The Daily Mail, Fulham are keen on the Senegalese forward as they look for competition for talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic. The report also states that the Scottish Champions have an interest in the player but it would appear that the West London club are now in the ascendancy with regards to a deal for Dieng.
Celtic had been linked with the player, amongst a number of other clubs. OM are keen to offload the player as opportunities will be limited due to the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Inter Milan. Dieng is said to have fallen out of the manager’s plans and the Ligue 1 outfit are said to be willing to sell the player and are quoting £8m for a permanent deal.
The player has made 42 appearances for Marseille, scoring 9 goals and assisting once. You would expect that the fee quoted is too steep for Celtic given that the club have already spent heavily on Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers. However, you would expect that the club are considering another centre forward with Albian Ajeti seemingly out of the first team picture.
