Green Brigade stage protest against outgoing Peter Lawwell

The Green Brigade have staged a protest against outgoing Chief Executive Peter Lawwell. After seventeen years at the helm of the club, Lawwell announced yesterday that he would be stepping aside to be replaced by Dominic McKay.

Lawwell and the Green Brigade had a difficult relationship and this has been exacerbated this season as supporters demanded change as performances on the pitch were poor.

Lawwell’s legacy will be predominately about the success of the last seventeen years, a period that supporters have thoroughly enjoyed. However, in his role, he has had an enormous amount of responsibility in footballing decisions which his successor must not have.

Celtic’s restructure should build on from years of success, even if the league title this year appears to be out of reach. A new manager is likely to be McKay’s first job as the transition of power begins.

  1. The green brigade do not speak for me!.. May I thank Peter Lawwell for the great job he has done for us over the years. If it had not been for Peter, we would have been down the swanee, the same as sevco!. Yes he may have made mistakes, but which one of us has never made a mistake??. Thank you Peter Lawwell and good luck in anything else you do. God Bless.

  2. Celtic supporters (or at least some of them) have turned on Fergus McCann, Gordon Strachan, Ronnie Deila, Neil Lennon and many others who have brought success to the club, so not really surprising that they turned on Peter Lawwell as well. I’ve even heard then hurling abuse at Jimmy Johnstone, Kenny Dalglish and Henrik Larsson – no kidding!
I always imagine some of them sitting on the plane coming back from Lisbon saying things like “Billy McNeill – over-rated!” “Jimmy Johnstone? Naw, he’ll never make it”.
That last bit is a joke but I remember vividly as a 14 year old being reduced to tears one day at Tannadice Park because some idiots wouldn’t stop hurling abuse at Steve Chalmers – the man who a few years later, scored the goal that won the European Cup in Lisbon!

    • Agree with both Hugh and David , it’s not been the best season and both team and management have under performed ,the end of the First 9in a row wasn’t a Good season either ,we’ll just have to pick ourselves up and kick on .
