Greg Taylor says postponement of Ukraine clash would be ‘understandable’

Celtic full-back Greg Taylor has said that he would understand if Scotland’s World Cup Play-Off Semi-Final against Ukraine would be postponed. The left-back was quizzed on his views on the possibility of a postponement after the Ukrainians asked that the game be postponed following Russia’s invasion.

Speaking to the media conference ahead of the trip to Livingston, Taylor said that he would understand if the game was postponed as football would rightfully take a backseat as the Ukrainian people defend themselves against Russian aggression.

“I would fully understand if it gets postponed.

“Football takes a back seat when it comes to the things we’re seeing on the news every night, with those horrible scenes in Ukraine.

“It’s so sad. You understand football is not even in the equation right now. Hopefully the situation can be rectified and we can get back to football.

“It would be great if it can be resolved and we welcome them to a full Hampden at some point.”

Taylor, a regular in Steve Clarke’s squads, will hope that they get the opportunity to play Ukraine at some point with a view to the winners playing Wales in Cardiff. Taylor will be on Celtic duty tomorrow as Ange Postecoglou’s side faces Livingston. The SFA and Ukrainian Footballing Authorities will liaise with FIFA and determine an appropriate course of action.
