‘I am very happy’, insists Celtic Star previously linked with AC Milan

KRIS AJER has insisted that he is ‘very happy’ at Celtic, despite transfer speculation over the summer linking him with a move to AC Milan. The Norwegian is on International duty and with Celtic due to face Rangers on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash, Ajer says he is looking forward to playing as the Scottish Champions go for 10IAR.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Ajer says that he won’t be pushing for a move from the club, stating that he is happy with life in Neil Lennon’s side.

“There has been a lot of interest, but I am very happy to be in Celtic.

“They have given me over 150 games and backed me.

“It is a club that means a lot to a lot of people, and I am happy to be there.

“My contract lasts another year and a half, and I look forward to playing there this season.”

Celtic should offer Ajer a new deal to protect their asset as no one would like to see another Boyata situation. With his deal ending in the summer of 2022, Celtic should offer him a year extension and adopt a European style ‘release clause’ so that the club and player know what requires to release him from his contract.

Ajer joined Celtic from IK Start in 2016 for £500,000 as a midfielder; however, Brendan Rodgers retrained the youngster as a central defender. The Norwegian became a first team regular striking up a partnership with Dedryck Boyata and impressing in the centre of defence.

Ajer had struck up a formidable partnership with Christopher Jullien at the heart of the Celtic defence before Neil Lennon opted for a 3-5-2 in the second half of the season. The Norwegian made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish Champions last year and had continued this season being a mainstay in Lennon’s teams.
